Emerson Osterberg (They/Them)
Clinical, Educational and Developmental Psychologist

Emerson Osterberg (they/them) is a Clinical, Educational and Developmental Psychologist with 15+ years’ experience working with children and young people, and their families. Emerson has worked in educational settings, public health and is the director of HMHK Psychology. Their practice specifically supports neurodivergent young people and the LGBTQIA+ community, with a specific focus on trans youth mental health. Emerson focuses on empowering young people to understand and embrace their identities, and works with families and other systems to create safe and supportive environments where they can thrive.

Facilitating and delivering education and training. Emerson designs and delivers workshops to a wide range of professionals, including schools, doctors and allied health professionals as well as families and community groups. They have presented at numerous conferences, in 2022-23 they presented at IPATH (India), Masterclass for Transgender Health (Thailand), GPCE Conference (Sydney), Better Together (Adelaide) and the AusPATH Conference (Darwin). Emerson was also involved in the Mental Health Professionals’ Network Webinar series and provides individual supervision to psychologist and other health care professionals.

Consulting. Emerson consults to education and health sectors, using their lived-experience and clinical expertise to create safer and more accessible environments for the communities they work with. Emerson was also engaged by the ABC as a subject matter expert for the television program Mikki Vs the World. They were a script consultant on Season 2 and appeared on the show in both Season 1 and 2. They are especially proud of the episode “We’re All a Vivid Rainbow” as it brings visibility to non-binary identities in an accessible way.

Advocating for change. Emerson is a vocal advocate for transgender rights and has previously held positions on the AusPATH Board of Directors and AusPATH Education Committee. Emerson has also held leadership positions on multiple professional association advisory committees and has been instrumental in the development of best-practice policies in relation to working with transgender people.
