Dr Amanda Thompson, Senior Forensic Psychologist, WA Fixated Threat Assessment Centre
Dr Amanda Thompson is a Senior Forensic Psychologist with over 20 years’ experience working with offenders across the life span in custodial, community, and law enforcement/health settings. Since 2020, she has worked with the WA Fixated Threat Assessment Centre, a joint police/health unit, conducting specialist mental health and behavioural threat assessments for individuals identified as being at risk of engaging in targeted/mass violence, and who are motivated by pathological fixation, grievance or ideological drivers. She also regularly delivers stakeholder training/information sessions to a range of police, health, education and other government/agency personnel. Prior to joining FTAC, Amanda worked with the WA Department of Justice for 14 years, working in a variety of areas including the Prison Counselling Service and Specialist/Forensic Psychological Service. In these roles, she undertook forensic and clinical psychological assessments and provided interventions with offenders in custody and the community, including high risk/serious violent and sexual offenders. Amanda has been a member of APATAP since 2020, and holds a Doctorate in Forensic Psychology.
